Public Visiting

Kern County Sheriff's Office

***IMPORTANT PUBLIC NOTIFICATION***

PUBLIC VISITATION AT ALL KCSO JAIL FACILITIES

On March 18, 2020, the Sheriff’s Office suspended public visitation due to restrictions caused by the COVID-19 Virus. Over the past couple of months, we have been able to reduce the spread of the virus within the facilities due to the implementation of extra sanitation, wearing of masks, and other recommended protocols from CDC and Public Health. Thanks to all of these measures, we are now in a position to re-open public visitation on a modified scale over the next few weeks. We will be monitoring this closely to make sure we do not experience any new outbreaks.

During this time, we will need your full cooperation in following the processes identified below for visiting at all KCSO Jail Facilities. There will be some changes initially, but hopefully we can get back to a more normal process as soon as possible. Modified visiting will start on June 6th. To limit the number of people visiting at any one time, visiting will be by appointment only. Here is how visitation will work at each facility:

Lerdo Justice Facility:

  • For members of the public visiting at the Lerdo Justice Facility, the normal process for scheduling an appointment may be used by following the link below:

*****All appointments are subject to cancellation at any time without notice. ****

If you made your appointment by calling the number above, a staff member may attempt to notify you of any cancellations. However, because it is not guaranteed that someone will be available to make contact, visitors are encouraged to plan around the possibility that their visit could be cancelled when they arrive.

  • All persons entering the Lerdo Detentions Complex will be subject to temperature screening, which will be accomplished with a no-touch thermometer. Anyone with a fever will not be admitted on to the grounds or be allowed to visit.
  • If you have a fever or symptoms of a respiratory illness, please postpone your visit until you have recovered.
  • Social distancing requirements will be maintained in lobbies and visiting areas. Seating and visiting space will be limited to ensure people stay at least 6 feet apart. Anyone violating social distancing requirements will be subject to cancelation of their visit and removal from the facility grounds.
    • If sufficient space is not available in the lobbies, visitors may be required to wait outside of the lobby in designated areas. It is important that persons waiting outside not leave the designated waiting areas unless returning to their vehicles. Anyone found outside of authorized areas will be subject to removal.
  • Visitors are required to wear a mask when visiting unless unable due to medical reasons.
  • All other visiting rules and requirements will still apply. To review visiting rules, please visit https://www.kernsheriff.org/Lerdo_Facilities and click on the name of the facility where you will be visiting.
